About Me
Hi! How are you? Welcome to my site!
My name is Alan Marcio and I’m an experienced MUSIC TEACHER and FLUTE PLAYER.
Now at 42, I divide my time between the career of Flute/Recorder Teacher and Orchestral Player. Besides being FATHER of a beautiful 8 year-old, Maria Flor.
Coming from a MUSICAL FAMILY on both father and mother sides, I began my musical studies at the Recorder at the age of 11, and the Flute at 12. At 17, I was already teaching at my father's Music school where I began my career as a Music teacher. Totaling over 25 years of Private Teaching experience now.
I graduated as a MUSIC TECHNICIAN at the "Maestro Fego Carmago" Arts Conservatory, Brazil and a MUSIC BACHELOR with Honors at the Colchester Institute of Music in England, UK.
As a performer, I have played and performed as a SOLOIST in England and Brazil and also travelled to France for the project "500 ans d'amitié Brésil et France" where I performed in many different cities across France.
I have also WON TWO COMPETITIONS while at University: 2005 Woodwind Soloist, and the 2005 Duet Competition with the talented flutist Amy Little.
My Methodology
The number one pilar of my methodology is:
To set goals directly based on the songs and style that the student wants to play.
That can be classical, jazz and improvisation, worship music, pop or school band pieces.
It can also be technical goals such as improving sound, faster fingers, better posture, or playing with a vibrato like a singer.
To help you achieve that in the shortest amount of time I have created 5 different learning modules.
Which of them will teach you different techniques through a special selection of methods and books that I personally compiled over the years.
Whenever you conquer a Module, you will received a Certificate of achievement to boost your motivation.

Questions and Answers
Now let’s answer some questions you might have:
- Who do I teach?
Adults and Children from 6 to 96!
- How long have I been teaching for?
Over 25 years. Private Teaching is my MAIN CAREER as a professional.
- Which Instruments do I teach?
The Flute, the Piccolo Flute and the Recorder.
- Which Levels?
From very beginning, ZERO KNOWLEDGE, to intermediate-advanced players.
- For what purposes?
As a HOBBY, for SCHOOL BANDS, GRADING TESTS or for AUDITIONS for Music Schools and Orquestras.
- Which styles do I teach?
CLASSICAL, JAZZ, Latin, Funk or Pop.
- Which subjects are included in my lessons?
Music Theory, MUSIC READING, Music Harmony and IMPROVISATION.
- Where do I teach?
I am international Teacher, tutoring students from all over the world.
All my lesson are online via FACETIME or GOOGLE MEETING.
ALL LESSONS CAN BE RECORDED by the student and be rewatched as many time as they wish.
- Why would you choose to have Flute Lessons online?
It’s SAFER, TIME SAVING, very CONVENIENT and COMFORTABLE.
- How do I teach? That is, what’s is my methodology?
My focus is entirely on specific SONGS AND STYLE THE STUDENT MAY WANT TO LEARN. It may be something he/she enjoys mostly or something she/he needs to learn for School Band for example.
The Student will have a PRACTICE LOG DOCUMENT where I’ll place information about what we talked and learnt in the lesson and what to practice during the week up to the next lesson.
The student will also have his own PRIVATE SHARED FOLDER where I’ll be placing all song’s sheet music and any extra material such as Scales, Study Method Books.
Last but not least, the students will have a PERSONAL PLANS AND GOALS DOCUMENT where will be writing the topics to be learnt and goals up to the next months.
Also, the student will have the right to receive a CERTIFICATE OF CONCLUSION FOR EACH YEAR OF NON-STOP LESSONS.And also a CERTIFICATE FOR EACH CONCLUDED METHOD, SONG BOOK.
I’ll be watching the student’s development very closely, giving ALL THE SUPPORT NEEDED for a steady and, most importantly, much fun learning.
- What can I teach my students?
Among uncountable topics I can teach my students, I’ll list 5 IMPORTANT PILLARS:
1. PROPER POSTURE: how to hold the Flute/Recorder in an easy but very stable manner keeping the body erect but relaxed. The bones hold the body up, not the muscles! So, relax and enjoy!
2. LONG LASTING BREATH: I’ll work on how filling up the body more deeply with air using abdominal, also know as, diaphragmatic breathing. But most importantly, the student will learn how to use it in a more efficient way, working on air direction, air intensity and also the shape of the mouth a.k.a. embouchure.
3. EASY GOING FINGERS: The finger must be light and near the keys/holes, relaxed and fluent! Scales, effective exercises and visualizations will get us there. Trust me!
4. FAST AND EFFICIENT SHEET MUSIC READING: Music reading is all about thinking ahead! With progressive exercises, a good Study Method and my accompaniment (and the student’s practice!) anyone can be the master of Music reading with me!
5. MUSICALITY: How to develop technically in a Musical instrument but do not sound like a MIDI music reader from the 80’s? I’ll work very simple and beautiful melodic lines either from pieces or exercises, to inbuilt the habit of playing anything musically in the student, from scales to full concertos or improvisational section.

Alan is a true master! An incredible teacher, with an excellent approach. In his lessons he provides precious insights on both the feeling and the technique on transverse flute. He’s a sensible soul, with passion for what he teaches. If by any chance you’re considering exploring the world of transverse flute, that’s the tutor you want on this journey!

Alan is my third Flute teacher. He completely meets my expectations. Not only due to his didactics and the care about my learning but also due to the attention with improvement of my sound. Every week I learn something new. The corrections of my mistakes and the praising of my achievements are very gratifying. In addition to all, he is also very compassionate and friendly with an elderly student with her limitations brought about by age.

Alan is an excellent flute teacher. 2 months ago my daughter didn’t even know how to start to play on the flute and now she is playing small songs alone! Amazing how fast Alan was able to teach her for the basics and every time she just surprises me with the next level of talent. Alan is very kind, patient, flexible, communicative and always smiles and has a positive encouraging attitude. I highly recommend him to anyone! - Sophia’s Mother, Zsuzsanna

I've been in love with music since I was very young and I've always dreamed of knowing how to play an instrument. However, life took me to other professional paths and I never had the time and opportunity to learn to do what I liked the most. When I decided not to postpone this dream anymore, the challenge was to find a teacher who loved music as much as I did. And I couldn't have made a better choice. Teacher Alan, besides loving music and having excellent knowledge, has all the patience and dedication to correct you and teach you every detail.

Alan is an amazing, kind, gifted and and experienced teacher. He intuitively knows how to engage the interest of small children and interest them in music theory. As a musician he is passionate about his instrument and shares his love of music with positivity and gentle encouragement. There is a strong balance of fun alongside of steady pathways through learning step by step, that is great for a young student and I am sure for a student of any age. It will definitely be a wonderful experience to have an opportunity to do lessons with him! Go for it! :-) - Michael’s mother, Tara

Learning to play the Flute has always been a desire of mine. However, finding available teachers who could meet my need for flexibility was difficult, even more so in a period of contact restrictions due to the covid pandemic. The online class with Alan represents more than an alternative: it is productive, interactive and efficient. Alan is a renowned teacher, with vast experience and excellent teaching skills. With a sharp ear, he is able to guide the student in good technique and execution and precisely addresses every detail, from sound to fingerings and embouchure.
